Another good flight from Abu Dhabi to Cairo. We flew in past the step Pyramid of Zoser at Saqqara.
We disembarked down the stairs onto the tarmac and caught a bus back to the terminal where we purchased our visas for $15US each. Much cheaper than if we had have got them before we left.
The ride from the airport to the hostel was was a little hairy. The driver was doing over 100km/h and zig zagging through the traffic honking his horn when passing other cars.
We checked in to the hostel, which is very close to the centre of downtown, relaxed a little then went for a walk to find the Nile. We managed our first main road crossing by following some locals. We found the Egyptian Museum and then walked down to the Nile.
We crossed the Qasr-El-Nil bridge over the Nile and took in the sights. Many people walking around enjoying their Friday afternoon.
We were completely exhausted so set off to find something to eat. We ended up having dinner at Philly Pan (fast food place), where we had shwarma - a plate of chicken/beef with salad and a roll. Along the way many people wanted to speak to us. The one guy I did talk to and told him where we were from said he had a friend in Sydney and then asked us if we wanted to visit his Papyrus factory. We declined.
Content we set off back to the hostel and went to bed.

"he had a friend in Sydney and then asked us if we wanted to visit his Papyrus factory"
