3rd April - Cairo

Woke feeling refreshed after a good nights sleep. We headed down stairs for breakfast of bread rolls, jam, cheese, a boiled egg, falafel and tea/coffee.
 Breakfast
I uploaded photos onto flickr and we set off for the Museum around 11am.The temperature is around 32 degrees celcius and it was a hot walk to the Museum. There were many people there, a girl in the ticket queue in front of us was telling her companion that it was the most people she had ever seen there. 0033Egyptian Museum
We headed inside and set off to view the ground floor exhibits. Some of the highlights were, a double statue of Rahotep (Khufu's brother) and his wife Nefret, a tiny 3" statue of Khufu (the builder of the great pyramid), wooden statue of the high priest of Memphis, fresco of the geese of Medium and some of the contents of Khufu's Mothers tomb.
We walked through the whole ground floor exhibitions from the Old Kingdom, New Kingdom and on through the late period to the Greco Roman period. It is amazing to think some of these things were made ovr 4000 years ago. In one of the rooms dedicated to the Greco Roman period we saw a stone tablet similar to the Rosetta stone in that it had both hieroglyphics and ancient Greek. We also saw many sarcophagi in many shapes and sizes. It was an amazing experience and one we will not forget in a hurry.0036Egyptian Museum
Around 3pm we were getting pretty hungry so we set off to find some food. We bought some fruit and pizza bread for dinner before having lunch in the food court of the Talaat Harb complex, a huge multi story shopping centre. After lunch we headed back to the hostel and booked and paid for our activities tomorrow, a tour of Dashur, Memphis and Saqqara and a dinner cruise on the Nile with a Sufi dancing and belly dancing show.
Feeling pretty tired again we headed back to the room to rest, upload photos and update our blog and dairy. Another early night ready for another big day tomorrow.
